Today afternoon I was in Manhattan to watch the famous NYC Halloween Parade when the terrorist truck-attack was made about a block away. I was out of sight and out of earshot of the attack site but heard about it a few minutes later on the news broadcasts.
It was the deadliest attack in New York City (NYC) since 9/11. It was less than a mile from the World Trade Center, site of the deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil on Sept, 11, 2001.
The terrorist in a flat-bed truck drove at speed into the sidewalk full of cyclists and pedestrians. Eight of them were killed and over a dozen injured. The terrorist was shot in the stomach by an NYPD officer, captured, and was being interrogated.
The “Allahu Akbar” shouting terrorist was 29-year-old Uzbek immigrant named Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov. He left a note saying that he made the attack on behalf of ISIS.
In a press conference three hours later, Andrew Mark Cuomo, Governor of New York, declared at a Press Conference that the New Yorker were not deterred by 9/11, and shall not be deterred by attacks such as this one.
And New Yorkers were not deterred. The Halloween Parade was held a few hours later, as scheduled.
What a coincidence that I saw the two deadliest terrorist attack in NYC: I saw ‘live’ the second Boeing being flown into the second tower of World Trade Center on 11 September 2001; and almost saw ‘live’ today’s terrorist attack in NYC.
It was a bright, sunny, day in NYC. Let’s shed a tear for those who left home on this glorious day little realising that they will not be coming back home.
